Allstate operate a very flexible hybrid working policy that will allow you to design your working week in collaboration with your manager with a blend of remote and office working for NI based employees as well as condensed working patterns (4 day week/9 day fortnight). Employees based in GB will be employed on a permanent remote working contract.

Your role in the team

At Allstate, Data & Intelligent Systems (D&IS) provide technology for Allstate's information strategy, which helps to drive a competitive advantage. This allows our users to tap into massive amounts of data to understand our consumers as well as enabling our business partners to make sound decisions, drive product innovation and improve customer experience.

D&IS bring innovation to data management through patented solutions for standardized data exchange, a scaled approach to data cataloging for data discoverability, and an internally developed data marketplace.

Responsibilities

We are searching for talented and technical engineers who can help design and develop our products. The successful candidate will collaborate within the team and across engineering teams within D&IS and the wider Allstate network to help maintain, implement and deliver features.

The D&IS codes management system (CMS) has been modernized and was relaunched as part of strategic goals in November 2022. Now known as Reference Data Management. This innovative system is built upon a canonical modelling tool using technologies such as Java, React JS and SQL This is a very exciting time to join a team that is continuing to evolve and grow and will provide a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to both lead and influence.

Residual services that the team currently support on Windows/.NET are being replaced under an App Rationalization program. Core tools and services are also currently being re-engineered in line with Target State Architecture and will be hosted on Pivotal Cloud Foundry (PCF).

As a talented engineer, you will:

• Perform enhancement, maintenance and support of the existing applications and services.
• Identify, design, and drive modernization.
• Influence automation and the remediation of our systems
• Prioritize and help co-ordinate the reduction of existing applications and services.
• Analyze existing codebases and SQL packages to drive performance improvements.
• Will have expert knowledge of CI/CD.
• Mentor and guide those around you, thereby advancing your leadership capabilities and self-development
• Undertake project work and provide support to a team of Codes Analysts.

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

• All candidates must evidence an existing right to work in the UK
• A minimum of 3 years software development experience
• A minimum of 2 years’ Java development experience
• Experience developing using ReactJs
• Experience using SQL
• Experience with GitHub, Jenkins and Octopus Deploy
• Experience working within Agile methodologies

We also have some desirable criteria

• Experience of PCF Deployments
• Experience migrating application code from .NET to Java
• Experience maintaining system entries in Barometer IT.
• Experience with TDD
• You have a proven ability to work on and lead high priority initiatives.
• You have excellent listening and communication skills.
• Good research and analytical skills
• Good problem-solving skills with a focus on code quality
• Be a team player, highly enthusiastic and self-motivated
